Andrew Jackson Nail's ancestor, Nicholas Nail, arrived in America in September 1727. Originally from Devonshire, England, he came to America at the age of 23 as an indentured servant to Mr. Taylor of Virginia. 

Andrew Jackson Nail was born in 1816 in Tennessee. His father, William Nail, was born in 1788 in North Carolina. Evidence supports that Andrew's mother was a Choctaw Indian.  Andrew came to Texas when he was 18 years old. Military records show that he took part in the Texas Revolution. He lived and farmed in the Rose Hill Community, near Timpson, Texas. Andrew's wife, Mary Reddins (possibly Redus or Hammer), was born in Tennessee in 1817. Andrew and Mary had eight children and later died in Shelby County, Texas, after 1870.
